Janet, so much fun to open your link each day and see what's waiting for me! Your painting, with its own layers, archaeology, and history, perfectly evokes that long time past suggested by the remains of a farming homestead in the prairie countryside. All so nuanced and half-remembered, so evocative and nostalgic. This painting also called up my earliest memories of seeing Dutch (and other) masters' paintings, in the Rijksmuseum when I was 11 years old, and now I'm wondering about what kind of layering and scraping back and the like those masters may have done. Never thought about that before.
Now you have me wondering too! Which is a good thing. This reminds me a bit of pictures from where my Mom grew up - a Saskatchewan farm girl. Finding I am painting more from 'memory' than a reference - not necessarily easier, but think I paint better! Have a wonderful day
