Thirty Paintings in 30 Days - Day 21
Time was at a premium today and painting wasn't at the top of the list! Managed an hour and a bit in my studio. I am not a fast painter, but after today I might throw in the extra challenge of limiting my time. Painting this way doesn't leave a lot of time for thinking about what you want to do, how you should go about it, what is the next step, etc. It's an opportunity to work more intuitively and perhaps have some different things come through that wouldn't normally when working at a more analytical pace. I would be interested to know what your thoughts are on 'quick' painting.

3 of my best this month, were quick pieces. I think I need to try that more often as well. :) This is gorgeous Janet! I love the view, the marks. The peaceful tones. The warm and white are perfect touches. Just enough and not too much. Awesome!

ReplyDeleteI prefer to work with a limited time! This way, I don'r overwork, I don't think too much, I just enjoy the process...
Working quickly and intuitively doesn't come naturally to me, but I love when I do! And, I trust that my painting life is unfolding exactly as it is meant to. Right now that means sometimes carefree, bold, speedy, and sometimes thoughtful, analytical, and painstaking. Sometimes both, more than once, in the same day.

I routinely set a timer in the studio. It keeps me from sitting there and over-working a piece. It also allows me to use short amounts of time to paint without worrying about when to stop. I agree that sometimes fast and determined is good!
