| The beautiful Cleo! |
So where does the dog journal fit into all this you ask? We have just adopted another yellow lab and she is gradually settling in to our home and routine with our other lab Cleo. Both girls have been adopted at an older stage in life and we are very lucky to have them as part of our family. Cleo has the most expressive and unique face - so different from Kali (the new girl). I don't know Kali well enough yet to capture her personality and features. Cleo having been with us longer has fascinating facial features and expressions.
The first painting is Cleo and will be one of many I hope and maybe a 'big' canvas at some point! The other is just a quick painting of no dog in particular, but just experimenting relying on memory rather than a reference.
This painting is actually 11"X14", but it was too large to fit on the scanner so had to crop it.

Janet, yay! Glad to see a new post. Fun to learn about a new dog! Welcome, Kali! So sweet to see the essence of Janet playing out in these paintings—I love seeing your hand and heart on canvas (well, paper) no matter the subject. In 'Cleo' I'm drawn to the softnesses and depth, the building of layers. In the 6x6 I'm drawn to the interplay of sketch lines, stencils (?), and the not-yet-fully-formed nature of the piece.
ReplyDeleteHi Dotty - good to hear from you! And thank you for the comments. Taking a break and revisiting some favourite subject matter. Who knows where it will go! Yes - stencils, mark making - pure enjoyment and what gorgeous subject matter! You would like Cleo - a gentle soul - asks for very little and gives so much in return. With Kali we are still finding our way. She misses her family and her 4 legged friend so we will take things slow and steady. I have some lovely 'models' to work with!
