I spent a lovely weekend - although a bit cold and damp at times - participating in Bragg Creek's 2nd Annual Plein Air Event. I met some new artists from other parts of Alberta and was able to do some painting! There is inspiration galore where I live. Kananaskis Country is a short 15 minute drive and the scenery is amazing. From rolling foothills and aspen parkland to beautiful mountain vistas. At the end of our painting day(s) we enjoyed going back to the hamlet of Bragg Creek and the Art Country Canada gallery (that organized the event) for a glass of wine and some finger food. My friends and I decided that the owner Angelo should do this once a month! The Bragg Creek art festival will wind up this coming weekend with several art exhibits and local restaurants creating 'arty' food offerings for all to enjoy.
Here are a few photos from the weekend.....

Thank you for the gift of a vicarious plein air painting day, Janet—what fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks, too, for posting befores and afters. I never get tired of process and journey.
I am especially drawn to the scritches in After #1 above and to the surface scribbles there, too, set into the context as they are.
Good to hear from you Dotty! Loving what you have been doing on your latest painting - your are so brave and bold! I need to take a page out of your book. I am not much of a' plein air' painter (sounds so uppity!...hahaha) glad you like the before and afters. Both will be on exhibition this weekend as well as a few others for our community's first annual art's festival. I have taken on a bit too much in the art world the next couple of months - so trying to balance painting with family and other obligations. Spending a weekend in the great outdoors was perfect! Take care and happy painting ox
DeleteYiu do live in a beautiful area. Love the before and after pics too
ReplyDeleteThanks Nelvia - somedays almost 'inspiration' overload! Happy painting!
DeleteSo pretty! Love seeing peeks into your process. So often thought about how you work to create your stunning pieces. Love the scratchy marks, and of course, your rugged "attitude". Love the sky, LOVE the light, just beautiful Janet!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Sheila. The 'process' changes from painting to painting! Just when I think I 'know' what I am doing.....what a difference a year makes! I find I am enjoying painting for myself. I was told when that 'moment of silence' happens in my studio with just me in the room.....success. So true. Apologies for not making over to your 'studio' a lot going on this weekend - exhibition and sale and an art festival in our tiny little community and Canadian thanksgiving! Blessings to you and yours and always appreciate your support! ox
